A day of decorating has seen South Hook LNG add its support to the huge community effort that is breathing new life into the Hubberston & Hakin Community Centre.

During one of the Company’s regular Community Days, volunteers painted the Centre’s coffee bar and foyer, helping to spruce up the venue and support current efforts to revitalise the Centre as the heart of the community.

“The South Hook team was only too willing to help” commented PR Manager Mariam Dalziel. “There are many people in our community working hard to ensure the success of the Centre, and we are pleased to have contributed to those efforts. It’s a place that holds a lot of fond memories for many of the team at South Hook,” she said.

Leased from Pembrokeshire County Council, a Board of Trustees has established a community-led charity to manage the Centre, encouraging involvement from a wide range of community groups. Regular activities held at the Centre already include a daily playgroup, senior citizen lunches and afternoon teas, keep fit classes, art and craft workshops, Hubberston WI, and many other activities. March sees the addition of two new classes to be added to the Centre’s growing time table.

With the aim of encouraging greater use of the building, the Centre’s Trustees are actively promoting the Community Centre on social media with a Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/hhcyc/ and an email booking system hhcommunitycentre73@gmail.com.

Secretary of the Centre’s trustees Viv Stoddart said “The South Hook team did an amazing transformation of the Centre’s two key areas. The trustees are so grateful for their efforts and the quality of their workmanship. The Centre was under threat of closure, but now, thanks to the community coming together, and the support of local companies such as South Hook LNG, the Centre’s future looks bright.”
