Crucial Crew is on its Way!

Schoolchildren across Pembrokeshire are preparing to take part in a hugely successful safety initiative, which celebrates its 21st Anniversary, this year.

Pembrokeshire County Council’s Crucial Crew event has been a long-running safety campaign, aimed at giving children across our County greater safety awareness in a range of situations.

Since the first event in 1994, around 20,000 Pembrokeshire schoolchildren have taken part in different events, receiving safety education and information on subjects from coastal safety and road awareness to domestic abuse and cyber bullying.

“This is a key event for primary school children in Pembrokeshire,” said Cllr Rob Lewis, Cabinet Member for Transportation.

“The children invited to Crucial Crew are in year six - aged 10 and 11 – and they are starting to become much more independent.

“This event is designed to help them with that transition and to stay safe wherever they are and whatever they’re doing - whether it’s out and about, at home or online.”

Supported by South Hook LNG, Simon Safety and Powersafe, the event will run over a two week period in November, engaging over 1300 year six schoolchildren from across the County.

Dyfed Powys Police, Mid & West Wales Fire & Rescue Service, Welsh Ambulance Service, the RNLI, the NFU, Road Safety, Coastguards, Western Power and the Food Standards Agency are just some of the agencies involved in delivering practical awareness sessions to the youngsters.

“With safety being the top priority at South Hook LNG, we are delighted to be once again be supporting such a strong safety initiative within our community, particularly one that continues to adapt to changes in how our young people live, introducing new ways of encouraging safety awareness across all sorts of topics,” said Hamad Al Samra, Deputy General Manager of South Hook LNG.
