Artwork Competition Celebrates 25 years of Crucial Crew

25th Jul 18

A competition to mark the 25th Anniversary of a hugely successful safety event for Pembrokeshire youngsters, has received colourful entries from across the County.

Celebrating a quarter of a century of ‘Crucial Crew’ in Pembrokeshire, Year 5 & 6 children were invited to design a banner that represented the many safety focuses of the event. Hundreds of colourful entries were received with winners from all schools being recognised and an overall winner, whose design will now be made into a banner for display at the Crucial Crew event later this year.

Commenting on the competition, Pembrokeshire County Council’s Road Safety Officer Kirstie Donoghue said, “We were overwhelmed by the amazing quality and variety of posters designed by the children in Years 5 and 6 – there were so many imaginative, colourful and bright creations that it was very difficult to choose the winners! I’d like to thank all the children who took part, and congratulate the winners on producing such great artwork which will help us to create a fantastic new banner for the event.”

The overall winner of the competition is Wriana Samsam from St Mary’s RC School, Pembroke Dock, with prizes also being given to runners up from Holyname RC School, Lamphey Primary School, Prendergast CP School, Portfield School, St Aidan’s Church in Wales VA School,  Ysgol Glannau Gwaun and Ysgol Gymunedol Maenclochog,
Supported by South Hook LNG Terminal, Crucial Crew passes on important safety learnings to over 1,400 local schoolchildren, annually.

From the potential dangers of social media, to physical forms of wellbeing, children experience a series of workshops focusing on a range of topics from basic first aid, road safety, food hygiene and domestic abuse to beach safety, fire and power line awareness as well as behaviour around dogs. A number of Agencies guide children through realistic scenarios in which they need to recognise the importance of staying safe.

The 25th Anniversary event will take place this coming November.
