Lifesaving Club given a boost with new Equipment

Ten new nipper surfboards are helping youngsters develop important lifesaving skills in the south of the County following support from South Hook LNG’s Community Fund.

The popular Tenby Surflink club based at South Beach, is a registered charity with around 100 junior members - some as young as eight - who are learning valuable knowledge about water safety.

From the dangers of changes in prevailing winds and currents to swimming and lifeguarding skills, these are essential learnings, often leading to the National Vocational Beach Lifeguarding Qualification (NVBLQ). Many members go on to take up part-time placements with the RNLI, helping to keep Pembrokeshire beaches safe during the summer months. The club also assists with lifeguarding support for the many sporting events that happen around our coast throughout the year.

The nipper boards will assist younger members of the club to gain confidence in developing their lifesaving skills, before moving on to larger rescue boards.

“The support from South Hook LNG has been fabulous,” commented Emmet Johnson, Tenby Surflink’s Head Coach. “The purchase of the new boards will enable us to teach more children lifesaving techniques. We’re also grateful to PAVS for their support in the application process.”

The South Hook LNG Community Fund, in partnership with Pembrokeshire Association of Voluntary Services (PAVS), helps Pembrokeshire communities through financial support. Details of how to apply for funding support can be found on the PAVS website (www.pavs.org.uk).
