Milford Haven, UK, Wales
South Hook, Europe's largest Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Terminal, at Milford Haven in South West Wales, part of the world's largest integrated LNG value chain Qatargas 2 (QG2) has successfully completed the build and commissioning of phase 2 and is complete.
Now fully commissioned, the Terminal has a total processing capacity of 15.6 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of LNG and is capable of delivering up to 21 billion cubic metres (bcm) per annum of gas into the National Transmission System (NTS).
South Hook demonstrates a major strengthening of the strategic partnership between Qatar and the UK It is the first Qatari involvement abroad in a downstream terminal and is a major component of Qatar's LNG supply portfolio as the world's leading LNG supplier and South Hook is of major significance for the UK.
The South Hook Terminal's ability to import LNG is important to the UK's long-term energy needs and the UK now has an additional major gas entry point in the West for the national grid gas system
Faisal Al-Suwaidi Qatargas CEO states: "This milestone would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of hundreds of people from across the world. South Hook, as part of Qatargas 2 project, is ground breaking in terms of size, organisation, finance and its strategic importance. From the planning stages back in 2004 this Terminal's completion has now become a reality"
Importantly the completion of South Hook is of major significance for the County of Pembrokeshire and the town of Milford Haven including its extended local community. The Terminal has already had a positive impact on local employment prospects and over the life of the project it is forecast to inject in excess of £1 billion into the local economy.
The South Hook Terminal is owned by a UK joint venture of Qatar Petroleum (QP) (67.5%), ExxonMobil (24.15%) and Total (8.35%).
